Abstract: The article deals with the comparative analysis of combination expediency of natural and artificial building materials production in civil engineering. The authors have consdred the problem of the ecologically- safe materials application in terms of the example of usage of doors and window frames made of plastics and wood. The article provides the characteristics of the physical and chemical properties of the materials, their advantages and disadvantages, their effect on the human health and the environment. The problem of renewable and non-renewable natural resources application has been studied and examples of renewable resources transformation into the category of non-renewable ones have been presented. The specific approaches towards the building materials application both in terms of their efficiency and also with their conformity to the ecological requirements have been determined.

Keywords: natural materials, artificial materials, ecological safety, efficacy.
