Annotation: The article deals with the social protection of the population of the Donetsk region. The theoretical regulatory framework for the organization of social protection of the population at the regional level has been determined. The role of the social protection system in regulating the social differentiation of modern society is defined. Approaches to the study of the phenomenon of social protection, such as economic, legal and sociological, are singled out. The effectiveness of the system of social protection of the population is estimated..
