Evolution and Essence of Social Housing

Annotation: The concept of «social housing» is not fixed by law. The article defines the term «housing fund for social use» in accordance with the Housing Code of the Russian Federation. The historical aspects of the formation of social housing in Europe have been studied. Based on this, the main stages of its emergence and development are systematized. The distinctive features of the modern approach of European architects to the construction of social housing are highlighted. It is noted that the most striking examples of modern social housing are the projects of Dutch and Danish architects. The history of the emergence and construction of domestic social housing is studied (the specifics of the USSR state are taken into account). The relevance of solving the housing problem in Russia is substantiated. Separately, the issue of building social housing for low-income segments of the population, as well as improving housing conditions for certain categories of citizens, is highlighted.
